Pope Francis visited Strasbourg today and addressed both the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Pope spoke in Italian, but the full text of both his addresses can be found in English; the Pope's address to the European Parilament is here and his address to the Council of Europe here. Finnish MEPs were positive in their comments on Twitter concerning the Pope's address to the European Parliament. For example Petri Sarvamaa tweeted in Finnish that "The Pope spoke beautifully. Europe must be built on deeper values than economy alone", adding that even the English-language simultaneous interpreter was moved at the Pope's words. | Maria Guzenina was among those listening to Pope Francis addressing the Council of Europe. She tweeted a photo of him leaving the Assembly and added that his "main message was: Fight that which is inhuman everywhere". |
