Diocese’s former website katolinen.net
is now run by volunteers
The old domain address of the Diocese, katolinen.net, has been handed over to a volunteer group called Ithaca Team. The group was formed after the Diocesan Forum in late 2012 and is made up of volunteers who want to improve communications between the parishes and in the Diocese.
– Sometimes I think the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing here. That failure to communicate is something we are trying to remedy through the Katolinen.net site, says Sara Torvalds of St Mary’s Parish and the current leader of the group.
The idea is to provide information in Finnish, Swedish and English about things that concern the Catholic Church in Finland, the parishes and Catholics who live here. The Ithaca Team hopes that there will be at least one but preferably a couple of volunteers from each parish willing to get involved in this communication work. More people are needed.
On Katolinen.net you can also pitch in anonymously by taking part in a survey and telling the Ithaca volunteers what you would like to see on the site in the future.
– We’ve had a lot of requests for practical information about groups that are active in the parishes, for instance, as well as about Catholic traditions. We’d also like to be able to post pictures of Catholic events, so if you have nice pictures of a baptism, for instance, please send them to ithaca.katolinen@gmail.com. I’d love a photo of the anointing of the sick as well, but I couldn’t find that in my cupboard, says Sara.
If and when you send a photo to Ithaca, that also means you give the group permission to publish it. More information about the Ithaca Team is available on Katolinen.net.
