This Christmas season it will be possible to see a number of beautiful Italian cribs brought to Helsinki and Turku by the Italian Cultural Institute in Finland. Most of them will exhibited in the Crypt of the Lutheran Cathedral of Helsinki, but one will be at St Henry's Cathedral. The cribs will be presented in a geographical sequence leading from the typical wooden cribs of the Val Gardena in the North to those in terracotta and beeswax of Sicily, from the vivacity of the Neapolitan crib to the seductive plasticity of the papier-mâché works of Lecce in Puglia, from the marvelous landscapes of the Basilicata to the hidden corners of "Roma Sparita": the Rome that is no more and to the detailed reconstructions of the cribs of Emilia and the Marche. | AN EXHIBITION OF ITALIAN CRIBS |
On Saturday December 7th from 15.00 to 18.00 there will be a workshop for families in the Crypt of the Lutheran Cathedral in Helsinki during which a number of artisans from Italy will demonstrate the techniques used for making Nativity scenes, giving children and their parents the possibility to take part in their work.
